
A front loader at full spin is turning a drum of wet laundry at well over a thousand revolutions a minute. Everything about the machine is built to keep that force inside the cabinet, and when it starts arriving at the floor instead, something specific has changed.
Rule out the floor first
Put a spirit level on the top of the machine, front to back and side to side, then push down on each corner in turn. If the cabinet rocks, the feet are wrong and everything else follows from that. Adjust the feet until it does not move, then tighten the locknuts, which is the step people skip. A machine that was fine for four years and started walking after somebody refinished the floor has a floor problem.
Then rule out the load
One bath sheet on its own is the classic offender: it soaks up water, collapses to one side of the drum and no amount of redistribution fixes it. Machines will retry, slow the spin, and eventually give up and walk. If it only happens with small loads or single heavy items, that is your answer and there is nothing to repair.
What is left is the suspension
Front loaders carry the drum on springs above and dampers below. The dampers wear, and they wear gradually, so the machine gets progressively worse over months rather than failing on a Tuesday. Counterweights, usually concrete, are bolted to the tub and those bolts do loosen. On a top loader with a suspension rod design, the rods lose their damping in exactly the same way.
All of that is repairable and none of it is exotic. What is worth knowing is that a machine left to bang for a year does damage beyond the dampers, to the bearing and to the outer tub, and that is the repair that starts approaching the price of the appliance.
