Almost nobody in this trade publishes a price, and the reason is not complicated: a number given in advance removes the room to set the price once somebody is already standing in your kitchen. We would rather you knew.
Rough ranges, parts and labor together
- Refrigerator, non-sealed: fans, defrost parts, thermostats, door seals. Usually $180 to $420.
- Refrigerator, sealed system: leaks, compressors, recharges. Higher, and it needs EPA 608 certification to touch.
- Washing machine: pumps, valves, dampers, door locks. Usually $175 to $400.
- Dryer: elements, thermostats, belts, rollers. Usually $165 to $350.
- Dishwasher: pumps, valves, heaters, controls. Usually $175 to $400, and more if the machine is integrated.
- Oven and cooktop: elements, igniters, sensors, locks, boards. Usually $180 to $450.
What moves the number
Access. An integrated dishwasher under stone, or a refrigeration column in fitted cabinetry, is an hour of careful work at each end before anybody touches a part.
The badge. Parts for professional and imported equipment cost more and occasionally have to be ordered in.
The part itself. A thermal fuse and a control board take the same labor and are nothing like each other on the invoice. This is the biggest single variable.
The number that does not change
The one you approved. It is quoted before anything is opened, nothing is added afterwards, and if we find a second problem behind the first we stop and tell you rather than continuing and explaining later.
